Reminder: Garden Resource Day on Saturday 7/8

Don't forget that I'll be at the Ft.Scott Community Garden this Saturday from 10am-1pm for a garden resource centerCommunity garden members are encouraged to stop by for materials to use in their community garden plots. We'll have compost and woodchips available. Bring your own containers (large plastic totes work well) or borrow some of our white buckets to transport to your garden plot. If you have specific garden questions, feel free to text or email photos with your question.

Here's what we've been up to in the gardens:

Healthy Kids in the Presidio Garden with Chef Traci Des Jardins

Last week, 32 enthusiastic kids joined Chef Traci Des Jardins and the me at MacArthur Garden for a special Healthy Kids workshop. After a lesson on where food comes from, kids tasted pea shoots and cherry plums, harvested vegetables, and helped prepare their own lunch using the ingredients growing just steps away. Thanks to the Presidio Foods team and our Trust community garden staff for supporting the day.

Outward Bound volunteering at Ft. Scott Community Garden
The Presidio hosted 9 folks between 14 and 16 years old during their 2 week Outward Bound trip in California. After spending the night at Rob Hill, they showed up, with packs, and worked hard building a new compost pile and filling a garden bed with soil! Then they were off, on foot, to the zoo to spend the night. We really appreciated their efforts, questions, and enthusiasm!

Getting ready to open Lendrum Court Community Garden
The newest neighborhood community garden is getting ready for it's grand opening. Thanks to our Trust landscape architects for continuing to include new gardens in neighborhood renovations, this will be our 7th garden bringing the total plots to 203!

Summer solstice Pizza Potluck
We had a great turnout for our summer solstice celebration- it was a beautiful afternoon and garden members, volunteers, and friends enjoyed delicious pizza and potluck contributions. Thanks to everyone who came out- we look forward to the fall harvest party in October!
